Heidi and Eric Anderson were thrilled when their beautiful baby girl, Deanna, arrived on July 24, 2013. Unfortunately, three months later they were faced with tragic news; Deanna had been diagnosed with biliary atresia, a life-threatening liver disease. The family was told that she would need a liver transplant to survive.
Co-pays, deductibles and travel to and from the hospital are just a few expenses the Anderson family will have to cover out-of-pocket. Deanna will also be on a lifetime of anti-rejection medications that are quite expensive. To ease this financial burden, Heidi reached out to HelpHOPELive to start a fundraising campaign in Deanna’s honor.
There have been multiple fundraising events to benefit the Southeast Liver Transplant Fund in honor of Deanna including an Applebee’s Dine in for Deanna and a bowling fundraiser. Not only has the fundraising campaign been very successful, Deanna received her gift of life at 1 a.m on February 27, 2014. Since her transplant, Deanna has only returned to the hospital once to have her central line removed as well as a blood transfusion. Her family looks forward to celebrating her 1st birthday and will continue to work with HelpHOPELive to raise funds for expenses related to her care that insurance won’t cover.
Since joining HelpHOPELive in January 2014, Deanna has raised more than $18,000 of her goal of $50,000.
